Maris Otter Pale
Maris Otter Pale
An English thoroughbred and a favored choice of malt for many brewers. Simpsons' Maris Otter has a rich and nutty flavor and despite its small, berry size has a strong husk. This malt delivers predictable brewhouse performance with modest, yet consistent extracts. Brewers can expect good runoffs with clear wort.

Loved this beer

This is the best beer I've made so far, for my personal tastes. Also entered into a local competition and received Honorable Mention in it's category (Including English Pale Ales and Irish Red Ales) Received correcting feedback on the use of non-UK hops was the only significant negative. Citrus tones weren't consistent with the style.

Is this a one-hour boil? Thanks in advance!

I tried this with a shorter boil and it didn't turn out as well (can't remember the specific problem) Since then, I've always done a 60 minute and started hopping at 20 min
Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback - one more question if I may: Tossing in the first hop addition 20 mins before the end of the boil seems late to me (but please keep in mind I'm fairly new to brewing - less than a year). I'm just double-checking that figure. I bought all of the ingredients for this recipe yesterday (had to sub Cascade for the Amarillo which blows because I REALLY like Amarillo - LHBS was out. Maybe it's an opportunity rather than a disappointment) and I've scheduled brew day for tomorrow. Thanks so very much for your time and assistance - Have a great holiday weekend!
20 min is correct

Yes. 20 minute is correct. The recipe has a lot of hops flavor and not much bitterness. The 0.1 minute addition is at flame-out; I put the dry-hop in when I rack to my secondary. You'll mail me a bottle when you're done so I can critique, right :-) Good luck! I hope it turns out as well for you as it has for me.

I'm not sure how I'm going to condition it at this point (bottle or keg), but I'd be glad to send you one - criticism is welcome and will only improve my process and products =)

This beer is delicious , will be one of my staples. My ABV was considerably lower than projected, which was a good thing.
