Ingredients (All Grain2.5 gal)

  • 5 lbs Maris Otter;Crisp

    Maris Otter;Crisp

An English thoroughbred and a favored choice of malt for many brewers. Simpsons' Maris Otter has a rich and nutty flavor and despite its small, berry size has a strong husk. This malt delivers predictable brewhouse performance with modest, yet consistent extracts. Brewers can expect good runoffs with clear wort.

  • .5 lbs Roast Barley;Crisp

    Roast Barley;Crisp

Sweet, grainy, coffee flavor and a red to deep brown color. For porters and stouts.

  • .25 lbs Honey;Gambrinus Malting

    Honey;Gambrinus Malting

Honey malt is the best description for European malt known as 'Brühmalz'. Its intense malty sweetness makes it perfect for any specialty beer. It’s color is 20-25 Lov and is without any astringent roast flavors.

  • .5 lbs Belgian Special B

    Belgian Special B

  • .5 lbs Golden Naked Oats

    Golden Naked Oats

Huskless oat crystal malt. Exotic ingredient for subtle nutty difference. This malt lends a sweet berry-nut flavor. Use at a rate of 4-15% of the total grist to deliver a deep golden hue with light caramel flavors as well as a creamy, satin finish.

  • 1 oz Fuggle -5.9 AA% pellets; boiled 45 min

    Fuggle

Mild. Mainly used for finishing and dry hopping especially pale ales, porters, and stouts. Aroma is mild and pleasant, spicy, and soft.

  • 1ea Oak Wood Chips -Infusion Spiral American Oak #3 Char (omitted from calculations)

    Oak Wood Chips

Adds a pungent woody flavor. Adding oak chips (which is done in the fermenter, not the mash tun) can add some interesting flavors to your homebrew as well as acting as a surface area to accelerate aging. To provide aged-in-oak flavor. Used in some IPA to simulate flavors from ocean passage to India.

  • 1ea Vanilla (whole bean) -Secondary (omitted from calculations)

    Vanilla (whole bean)

Vanilla Beans have a sweet, perfumed aroma with a woody or smoky flavor. Pure Vanilla Extract has a similar aroma. Vanilla Beans are the long, greenish-yellow seed pods of the tropical orchid plant, Vanilla planifolia. Before the plant flowers, the pods are picked, unripe, and cured until they're dark brown. The process takes up to six months.

  • DanstarWindsor

    DanstarWindsor

Windsor ale yeast is a true English strain that produces a beer which is estery to both palate and nose with a slight fresh yeasty flavor. Beers created with Windsor are usually described as full-bodied, fruity English ales. Brewers choose Windsor to produce beers that range from pale ale to porter with moderate alcohol levels and the flavor & aroma characteristics of the best traditional ales. Depending on the composition of the recipe, Windsor demonstrates moderate attenuation which will leave a relatively high gravity (density). Recommended fermentation temperature range for Windsor is 17° to 21°C (64° to 70°F).
