Fermentation time

What went wrong? Was this supposed to happen? Should I throw it out? What do I do now?

Fermentation time

Post by sneeden »

My recipe calls for 7 days in the primary, which is today. However, I'm still getting some bubbles through the airlock. Maybe 1/minute. I realize that it will keep fermenting after I move it over to the secondary.

My concern is that if I do go ahead and move it over, that a lot of yeast will end up settling to the bottom of the secondary. Isn't that the main point of moving it to the secondary? To get it away from most of the dead yeast, for taste sake?

Should I move it or leave it for another day or two?

I always leave my beer in the primary until fermentation is complete plus 2-3 more days for the yeast to clean up fermentation by-products. If you want to go by time, 2 weeks is a much better rule of thumb, in my opinion, than 1 week.
