Boil volume

Post by Steven »

Does it really make a difference if you use a higher boil volume than the recipe calls for? for example I bought a kit and it calls for a 2.5 gal boil, can i just use a 6 gal boil?? :?:

Yes you can, provided you have a way to heat that volume of wort. I've never tried it, but from what others have said a kitchen stove will just barely work, if it works at all. With the exception of those that have electric breweries most of us use propane burners for the boil. You'll also need a way to cool the wort. If you dont have a chiller you can place the kettle in a tub of ice water. You'll need to keep adding ice so make sure you have plenty on hand.
