Sanitizer

Post by brewfeller »

I am a first time brewer and I had a question about sanitation. The guy at the brew shop gave me this stuff called "One Step" no rinse sanitizer. Is this better than bleach?
It says it cleans by Oxygen it contains percarbonates.
With no rinsing necessary it sounds great.
Any experience with this stuff?

one-step

There are several oxygen based cleaners and sanitizers available. One-step is the only one that I am aware of that does not need to be rinsed. It works pretty well as both a cleaner and sanitizer. With a bit less than recommended amount, it did a pretty good job loosening up the brew residue on the bottom of my kettle with just soaking over night. There were some scorch marks that probably would have been better taken care of if I had used a stronger solution--but it all came out. Bleach is ok, but it needs to be rinsed. Also its cleaning properties are marginal at best. IF you do use bleach stay away from the scented varieties. Good Luck
