mash pH in BeerTools

Postby manwich74 » Sat Jun 01, 2013 7:30 pm

Does anyone know if the mash pH given in the Water Chemistry tool is at room temp, or at mash temp?

My gut says room temp. Thanks.

It appears to be the room temperature pH, which is the value that is usually discussed.

Be aware that the pH given is that predicted for a pale base malt mash with that water profile, and isn't affected by the recipe.

As slothrob said, BTP doesn't consider the grist in calculating mash pH. It also doesn't consider whether you acidify your mash or sparge water. I think you would be better served by using a stand alone calculator such as Bru'n Water. That's what I use and find it very accurate when comparing the pH it predicts against my meter. One caveat though, some have found the learning curve a little daunting, but it's well worth the effort IMO.
