Re: Database additions
Hi Jeff and all,
Hops
I'm finding more and more that a lot of Australian and Kiwi hops aren't to be seen here.
Some of the bigger ones I'm thinking of are from Hop Products Australia (http://www.hops.com.au, a breeder in Victoria, Australia) and NZ Hops Ltd (http://www.nzhops.co.nz):
examples include:
1.
Ella
======
ANALYTICAL DATA
Alpha acids (%) 13.3 - 16.3
Beta acids (%) 4.8 - 7.8
Alpha/Beta Ratio 2.1 - 3.2
Cohumulone (% of alpha acids) 34 - 38
Total Oils (ml/100g) 2.4 - 3.4
Oil Concentration (microliters of oil/g alpha) 180 - 209
Origin: Australia
Notes:
Ella™ is an intriguing hop to experiment with, showing you floral and subtle spice notes when dosed in smaller quantities which apply well in a variety of lagers. With increased aromatic additions and dry hopping, Ella™ imparts a distinct grapefruit and tropical flavour useful in heavier malt bills or highly hopped styles. With high levels of essential oils, Ella™ presents a number of options; pare her back to add depth, but let her loose and you’ll get a big tropical flavour to your beers.
======
2.
Galaxy
======
Alpha acids (%) 11.6 - 16.0
Beta acids (%) 5.0 - 6.9
Alpha/Beta Ratio 1.5 - 2.5
Cohumulone (% of alpha acids) 32 - 42
Total Oils (ml/100g) 3.0 - 5.0
Oil Concentration (microliters of oil/g alpha) 273 - 313
Origin: Australia
Notes:
Whether used late in the kettle, in the whirlpool, or for dry hopping, Galaxy™ consistently contributes a remarkable tropical flavour of passionfruit and citrus. Her fruity perfume is tempered depending on the different hops, malts, yeasts and dosing in the brew, but a late addition of Galaxy™ will always have a striking and distinctly flavoursome effect.
======
3.
Topaz
======
ANALYTICAL DATA
Alpha acids (%) 13.7 - 17.7
Beta acids (%) 6.4 - 7.9
Alpha/Beta Ratio 2.1 - 2.6
Cohumulone (% of alpha acid) 48 - 51
Total Oils (ml/100g) 1.7 - 2.2
Oil Concentration (microlitres of oil/g alpha) 124 - 161
Myrcene (% of whole oil) 34 - 56
Linalool (% of whole oil) 0.3 - 0.6
Caryophyllene (% of whole oil) 7 - 13
Farnesene (% of whole oil) 0 - 1
Humulene (% of whole oil) 8 - 13
Selinene (% of whole oil) 1 - 3
Humulene/Caryophyllene ratio 1.0 - 1.8
Origin: Australia
Notes:
Topaz™ is a rare gem. Down to earth or bright and breezy, depending on how you apply her. Dry hopping with Topaz™ results in resinous, grassy flavours; however, with later additions and in higher gravity brews, her true flavour qualities really begin to shine, as her pleasant, light tropical fruit (some say lychee) flavours become more pronounced. When ranked among other single hop beers by tasters at Brau 2012, Topaz™ was the most preferred.
======
4.
Nelson Sauvin
======
Alpha Acids 12 - 13 %
Beta Acids 6 - 8 %
Cohumulone 24 % of Alpha Acids
Total Oil 1.1 mls oil per 100 gram cone weight
Concentration 79 uL Oil/gram Alpha
Myrcene 22.2 %
Humulene 36.4 %
Caryophyllene 10.7 %
Farnasene 0.4 %
Citrus-Piney Fraction 7.8 %
Floral Estery Fraction 2.8 % (Linalool 0.8 %)
Xanthohumol 0.6 %
Other 14.0 %
Origin: New Zealand
Notes:
Described during selection as “breathtaking” Nelson Sauvin has the unique ability to impart a distinctive cool climate white wine “fruitiness”. The complexity of the oils profile has seen selectors stretched looking for descriptors to document this unique new world variety. Nelson Sauvin is a hop that requires judicious application in the brew house, this truly unique dual-purpose variety can be used to produce big punchy Ales as well as subtle yet bitter Lagers. The fruitiness may be a little overpowering for the uninitiated, however those with a penchant for bold hop character will find several applications for this true brewer's hop.

There's lots more, but I'll post them later perhaps.
Apologies to those who are sent into a mad frenzy after reading the Notes here.
cheers,
Kieran

Re: Database additions
I'd like to second the Mangrove Jack's yeasts suggestion. I'm seeing them increase in popularity in my brewing circles (and I've had good results too! )
Re: Database additions
Any chance we can get Omega Labs yeast strains added to the database?

Re: Database additions
Ditton on the Mangrove Jack yeast. I am using M20 and M21 and they are both performing quite nicely!

I second the Aussie hops. I can't believe Galaxy hasn't made it's way in.
