What category would you enter a Coffee Stout in the NHC?
As you guys know, this was my first all grain and it turned out great. So, I thought I would enter it in the NHC. What category would you enter a Coffee Stout? I was thinking experimental/specialty, maybe dry stout. Here is the recipe: 11 # American 2-row 2 # Flaked Barley 1 # Roasted Barley .5 # Ch...

Ok, this beer is pretty darn good. It needs to mature a couple more weeks and then look out!! So, what category would you enter a Coffee Stout in the NHC? I was thinking experimental/specialty. First All Grain
Hello, I brewed my first all grain yesterday and it was great. The problem is I missed my target gravity, TG = 1.075 FG = 1.062. I used Beersmith for my calculations. Infusion mash for approx. 70 min at 152 F, mash out with 2.5 gallons, and sparged with 2 gallons. I think my sparge was a little too ...

Another Mash Equipment Question
Ok, so I have been looking around and found a good price on a 10 gallon Gott cooler mash tun setup on homebrew.com. Is a 10 Gott cooler too large for 5 gallon batches? Will the grain bed be too shallow on normal gravity beers? What about 5 gallon partial mashes? I would like to go to10 gallon batche...

Oxidation
The last two beers that I have entered into competition have both had comments that oxidation was evident. Both brews were extract with specialty grains and were full boils. I use the Auto Siphon to transfer to various vessels and suspect that it could be a cause of possible aeration (seem to rememb...

I brewed a Rye Pale Ale a few weeks ago and forgot to throw the Irish Moss in the brew kettle. When I racked the beer to the primary it looked terrible, very cloudy. I thought it would clear in the primary, but it didn
