Big pain in the !@#!
If you have an extra hour and a half, basic soldering skills, and a local Home Depot you can make one for about $10. I only use mine if I want to bottle a 6er or two for a party or I sometimes bottle the remains of a keg if I need the space. It will take you twice as long to bottle with CPF as with ...

Flaked Maze
Ed:
For what it's worth, I make a CAP that I really like and the recipe calls for 25% flaked maze. It seems to me that it adds a little tartness to the beer which of course may not be to everyones liking.

Brew your own--grow your own
Gav, I think the obvious solution here is to send wee Jimmy and the wife out in the backyard with a spade and a hoe, dig it up and plant your own barley. You should get 60 bu/acre, that equates to about 1800 lbs and it won't cost you but about $25 for the seed.Just kidding of course,Gav I've been try...

Cows
If you have any neighbors or know of any farmers that have dairy or beef cattle...they LOVE em. They do have to be rather fresh though.

Katybug: Check your local homebrew supply store or if nothing close check the web. I was given a started kit a year and a half ago, she created a monster. Me too
That is exactly what I do to lager and it works like a charm. I use it in the warmer months also, the only difference is I must change the frozen water bottles every other day. I bought my cooler from Sears when they put summer items on sale....I paid $4 for mine, sure as hell beats buyin a fridge:)
