Three gallons of water is added to the brew pot and is heated to 150°F. This is the temperature used to steep the specialty grains we have selected in our recipe.
The crushed specialty grains are measured out and added to the grain bag. The grain bag allows the brewer to remove the specialty grain husks before the boiling begins. The husks should not be present during the boil because they add off-flavors if boiled.
Allow the grain bag to steep in the 150°F water for 30 minutes. The top of the bag should not be submerged if it is left open.
